This poor little spotted orb weaver was missing one of its legs but that didn't stop it from building it's huge web. The spotted orb weaver is a nocturnal spider who builds its web at night and then by dawn, it eats its web and rebuilds another web at nightfall again. This was shot in the blue ridge mountains outside of our home in late August of 2013. The web was huge being about 2 feet in diameter!
A little about me: I was born and raised in California and Oregon so being outdoors was always an important part of my life. My family and I used to camp all up and down the California and Oregon Coast as soon as I was old enough to camp at the age of 4. The beauty of nature was a form of inspiration and healing to me and still is to this day. On our camping trips I made it a point to talk with the rangers at the visitor's centers and to learn about the native wildlife and plant life and even insect life of an area. Whenever I saw a new bird it was an exciting quest to find the name of the bird in our bird guide. My parents were not professional photographers but they planted the photography seed in me through example. I still...
