I shot this photo on New Year's Eve. I was thinking of my friend Janet and how she creatively framed the moon in many of her moon shots when I shot this photo and this was inspired by her work. She was a Facebook friend and I hadn't actually met her in person but we had known each other for years on Facebook. I had always felt we were kindred spirits. We both shared a love of animals and birds and all things nature and of course photography. I didn't know she was sick...and a few minutes after I shot this I received the sad news that she had been in the hospital and that she had passed away the night before. I will forever think of her and miss her gentle kind spirit whenever I look at the moon.
A little about me: I was born and raised in California and Oregon so being outdoors was always an important part of my life. My family and I used to camp all up and down the California and Oregon Coast as soon as I was old enough to camp at the age of 4. The beauty of nature was a form of inspiration and healing to me and still is to this day. On our camping trips I made it a point to talk with the rangers at the visitor's centers and to learn about the native wildlife and plant life and even insect life of an area. Whenever I saw a new bird it was an exciting quest to find the name of the bird in our bird guide. My parents were not professional photographers but they planted the photography seed in me through example. I still...
