This historic covered bridge is located in Shenandoah County near Mt. Jackson in the beautiful Shenandoah Valley. Construction of the bridge began in 1892 and completed in 1893. All of the materials for the rock work and timbers came from the surrounding area. Sadly vandals set fire to the bridge on Halloween in 1976. The original timbers were slavlaged and the bridge was then reconstructed using steel beams and concrete piers. The reconstruction finished in 1979 when it was then opened to traffic again.
A little about me: I was born and raised in California and Oregon so being outdoors was always an important part of my life. My family and I used to camp all up and down the California and Oregon Coast as soon as I was old enough to camp at the age of 4. The beauty of nature was a form of inspiration and healing to me and still is to this day. On our camping trips I made it a point to talk with the rangers at the visitor's centers and to learn about the native wildlife and plant life and even insect life of an area. Whenever I saw a new bird it was an exciting quest to find the name of the bird in our bird guide.
