On a recent trip to Florence, Oregon I had the pleasure of being greeted by this curious river otter as I sat on a dock on siltcoos lake. I hadn't set out to get a river otter shot, I was actually looking for wood ducks or a kingfisher but instead I was greeted by this adorable otter and her two babies. They were completely unafraid of me and swam right up to me and the babies even said something to me in their otter snort language. I'm not sure what they said but it sure was a special moment to be a brief part of their otter family adventures.
A little about me: I was born and raised in California and Oregon so being outdoors was always an important part of my life. My family and I used to camp all up and down the California and Oregon Coast as soon as I was old enough to camp at the age of 4. The beauty of nature was a form of inspiration and healing to me and still is to this day. On our camping trips I made it a point to talk with the rangers at the visitor's centers and to learn about the native wildlife and plant life and even insect life of an area. Whenever I saw a new bird it was an exciting quest to find the name of the bird in our bird guide. My parents were not professional photographers but they planted the photography seed in me through example. I still...
