Description
A 17 year cicada soaks up the sun after emerging from it's shell. These are misunderstood creatures that sometimes get a bad rap and are confused with locusts. Cicadas actually do not do that much harm to most trees. They feed on young trees or ornamental trees but certainly don't do damage on the scale of locusts. Rather than chewing trees they drink the fluids from trees using slender straw like mouth parts. They also benefit trees by aerating the soil around the base of trees when they hatch out.
